Ozone Day

Since 1995, on 16 September each year, the International Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer is celebrated. This date has been designated by the United Nations General Assembly in its resolution 49/114, to commemorate the signing of the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer.

This commemoration around the world offers an opportunity to focus attention and action at the global, regional and national levels on the protection of the ozone layer. All Member States are invited to devote this special day to promotion, at the national level, of concrete activities in accordance with the objectives and goals of the Montreal Protocol and its Amendment.

History

On 16 September 1987, twenty four Parties signed the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer. In 1998, in recognition of the Protocol's unique accomplishments, the General Asembly in its Resolution 49/114 named 16 September as the International day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer. Since that time, the Parties have used this day to celebrate the signing of the Montreal Protocol, and the significant environmental and health benefits that this amazing treaty has yielded.

In India

India become party to the Montreal Protocol in June 1992 and prepared the country program in 1993 for phasing out the Ozone Depleting Substances. Further, various policy measures including National Awareness Campaign have also been adapted for smooth implementation of provisions of the Montreal Protocol. In accordance with the UN resolution 49/114, the Ozone Cell, Government of India has been celebrating the International Ozone Day for the Preservation of the Ozone Layer since 1995 at the national and state level.

(a) Publication of a booklet Titled " The Montreal Protocol : India's Success Story " which apart from the evolution of Montreal Protocol gives the various initiatives taken by the Government of India to fulfill the obligation of the Montreal Protocol.

(b) Publication of a poster, pledge and a sticker and distributed to industry people, Government Officials and students with a view to raise public awareness .

(c) Telecasting of a video film on Montreal Protocol and Ozone Layer by the Doordarshan

(d) Children's Painting Competitions .

(e) Competition in schools on awareness of the Ozone Layer problems .

Alternative Engines for Petroleum based Engines

Water powered Engine!

This is for real! Have an water system installed in your motor vehicle. The engine doesn't actually burn the water, but it breaks it into hydrogen and oxygen gases, mixes it with petrol-air mixture in the carburetor and burns that. You will get better performance, stronger acceleration, and best of all, you will save money because you will get better mileage. A water system uses the electrical system of the vehicle to break down water into a highly explosive mixture of hydrogen and oxygen then feeds the mixture of gasses into the air intake of the engine. Sounds good? This system is 100% safe. Unlike hydrogen that is stored in high pressure fuel tanks or in unstable forms, in this system, the hydrogen remains in the form of water until the moment the hydrogen and oxygen is needed to improve the fuel efficiency of your vehicle's engine. The byproduct of this combustion is none other than very safe water. And unlike "hydrogen vehicles", we do not store the hydrogen. Instead the hydrogen and oxygen gas (HHO) is produced and then immediately used.

Magnetic Powered Engine

There have been several patents recently for magnetic energy driven motor/generators. They can run nonstop for years with no fuel by using the magnetic fields of permanent magnets to spin the motor and drive the generator. The Howard Johnson motor, the Perendev motor and many others rely on this principle. Some designs have the motor and generator combined into one compact device. The rotoverter and John Searle's motor/generator are good examples. Similar devices are already available for purchase in some countries such as Australia, China and Japan. However, they are expensive and the supply is very limited at this time.

Solar Powered Engine

Much like solar-powered homes, solar cars harness energy from the sun, converting it into electricity. Motor Directly Powered by a Solar Panel If we hook up a solar panel directly to a dc electrical motors, then the solar panel is sending power directly to the motor and the motor is using the electrical energy immediately. In this case the motor is "Directly Powered by Solar Energy". Motor Indirectly Powered by a Solar Panel If we hook up the solar panel in a parallel circuit with a motor and a battery then the solar panel will charge the battery and the dc motor will get dc electrical energy from the battery. The energy used to power the motor came from the battery. However, the energy in the battery came from solar energy so we say that the motor is "Indirectly Powered by Solar Energy"
